Strategic Partnership with Wilo
February 2, 2022
The leading pump manufacturer Wilo and the Competence Center ML2R, represented by TU Dort-mund University, have entered into a strategic partnership. The cooperation partners are working together with the aim of establishing and expanding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Ma-chine Learning (ML) at Wilo with regard to customer benefits, optimized business processes and new product functions. The project teams came together at a kick-off meeting in Dortmund.
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning technologies are already a decisive competitive advantage for companies today. Wilo, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of pumps and pump systems for building services, water management and industrial sectors, and the ML2R at TU Dortmund University are addressing this with a strategic partnership.
As part of the collaboration, the cross-institutional, agile project teams identify business-relevant use cases for Machine Learning at Wilo and implement them in the form of prototypes. For this purpose, interviews are conducted with Wilo employees and project-based tasks are addressed in a coworking format. All project participants are in close exchange in order to easily integrate expertise into the work process. The Machine Learning methods used correspond to the current state of science and technology, taking into account the efficient and sparing use of resources.
“Wilo’s Smart Factory in Dortmund offers innovative uses of AI that also challenge Machine Learning. Long-term collaboration makes it possible to go beyond the quality control of individual products or production stations by examining the overall process and the various pump applications in terms of resource conservation.”
– Prof. Dr. Katharina Morik, Co-Speaker of ML2R
ML2R contributes its extensive expertise and knowledge about applications as well as solution approaches for Machine Learning in comparable companies to the partnership and is internationally recognized in the research field of resource efficiency and process optimization.
