Franco-German Workshop on Artificial Intelligence
June 15, 2022
With a joint in-person workshop, the German Network of National Competence Centres of Excellence for AI Research and the French National AI Research Network have deepened their bilateral cooperation in the research field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The coordinators of the Franco-German AI cooperation, ML2R spokesperson Prof. Dr. Katharina Morik and Inria Research Director Prof. Dr. Isabelle Herlin, organized the event, which will take place on 14 June near Versailles (Île-de-France, France).
The workshop provided a forum for leading researchers, representatives and young scientists from the German AI centers and French AI institutes to exchange ideas on current research and intensify cross-institutional cooperation. The event is a further milestone in the Franco-German research and innovation network, which promotes cross-border cooperation between the two countries in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
Intensified Cooperation of Top-Level German and French AI research
The day-long workshop program included welcoming addresses by representatives of the German and French research ministries, BMBF and MESRI, as well as the coordinator of the German AI network Prof. Dr. Katharina Morik and the INRIA CEO Prof. Dr. Bruno Sportisse. Following the opening, keynotes by renowned researchers Prof. Dr. Michèle Sebag (CNRS) and Prof. Dr. Barbara Hammer (Bielefeld University) then set the mood for the subsequent scientific workshops. Following presentations by the directors of all German AI centers and French AI institutes, young researchers from the participating institutions came together in thematic groups. In six parallel sessions on highly relevant research strands of Artificial Intelligence, they presented their work, exchanged ideas, and networked. A social program framed the workshop and rounded it off.
