Dr. Nico Piatkowski receives dissertation award
Dr. Nico Piatkowski completed his doctorate on “Exponential Families on Resource-Constrained Systems” with a distinction (summa cum laude). He also received one of the dissertation prizes at the TU Dortmund’s academic anniversary celebrations on 23 January 2019.
In his doctoral thesis, Nico Piatkowski dealt with Machine Learning under limited resources. He has investigated how mathematical methods of Machine Learning can be simplified in such a way that they also function on devices that have only limited computing power, storage capacity or energy reserve. These are, for example, mobile devices such as smartphones or sensors. The scientist studied computer science and economics at the TU Dortmund and continues to work as a postdoctoral fellow at the ML2R. The TU Dortmund is one of the partners of the Research Center Machine Learning Rhine-Ruhr (ML2R).
